HEY HO MELAKA: FOOD YOU!
Written on May 27, 2008 // Musing.HOE KEE Chicken Rice Ball, FISH VILLAGE Seafood, BABA Cendol, NYONYA CURRY… Eat till you vomit then go back and eat again lor can? Melaka food you!
Frankly speaking, I myself wasn’t quite satisfied with these batch of food pics just because that i personally can only get such minimal gist of inspirations from the snapshots. But hey, i hope you get at least a subtle food fallacy from them! Back to the food, i would hereby (once again) thanks JASONMUMBLES, for his generous hostility hospitality upon tour guiding me around MELAKA city centre. Pairing with a guy triple my size (PST! You don’t call him Jasonmumbles for nothing… Shhh!), going on starvation would not be your biggest solicitude. Let alone the big guy over there, would not bear starving himself anyway, so I’d just wait and expecting the kind of culinary surprises that he would stuffed me with.

It’s in everyone’s mouth, that the must-try food when coming to Melaka would be the infamous CHICKEN RICE BALL. And hell yea, the sun was tanning everyone mercilessly, yet it never kills the spirits of these hungry crowds waiting hours in front of HOE KEE CHICKEN RICE for that “balls of satisfaction”.

TADAH!
Two persons + Chicken Ball Rice + Vegetable + Chicken + Drinks + 5% Goverment Tax = RM 19.30!!! ![]()
Ya… I know. Don’t mention it.

FISH VILLAGE was the straight forward destination ensued for our evening session where seafood were freshly captured by fishermen along the river. All you need to do, just pick those dead fishes, crabs or prawns what-so-ever and get on with it telling staff there how you want it to be cooked.

“OTAK OTAK, second-graded topped over the awful Jusco’s low-graded OTAK OTAK BUNGKUS”, quoted by Jasonmumbles, claiming that we’re yet to taste the BEST OTAK OTAK in Muar in the near future. Meanwhile, you’ll just have to cheer up with these from FISH VILLAGE.

As for desserts (excuse me?), you could jog yourself down the streetway just few stones away from HOE KEE CHICKEN RICE on the same row. More horrible queue could be spotted with no doubt that they are craving for JONKER DESSERTS STALL.
The most famous recipes that indulge you?

The NYONYA CURRY that blinds your eyes with such rich delicious colors.

And of course, one of my favourite along this culinary expedition, BABA CENDOL! I didn’t opt for the BABA DURIAN CENDOL, just because if you would have known me long enough, you know i don’t eat DURIAN… Because i think they smell weirdly unappetizing.
So now. Hungry yet? It’s just an hour half journey away… Go on. Just tell your boss you’re taking an emergency leave.
